About Ranchero Kennels
Ranchero Kennels is a small family run breeding kennel situated on the outskirts of the Waikato town of Te Aroha.
We are New Zealand Kennel Club registered breeders of good natured, high drive, quality German Shepherds.
We have always loved the German shepherd breed and purchased our first dog way back in 1980. Between 1980 and 2000 we owned several Shepherds as family pets/security dogs.
In 2003 we brought a small lifestyle block with the intention of starting a German shepherd breeding kennel. While we were fencing and building kennels here we were also researching the type of dogs we would like to breed. That is the working line German shepherd. With the help from an experienced breeder we were able to source the animals we needed to do this. All good things take time and our kennels are still in the infant stage. The dogs we supply are not show dogs and their hind quarters don’t slope like most German shepherds you see in New Zealand today. They are also darker in colour, sable and some being pure black. For the most part these dogs are used for working purposes, dog sport and security, but also make excellent family pets and are very easily trained.
